Productive Poukawa Pastoral Farm 146 Ha (NZ$ 1.8 to 2.0 million)

Fifteen minutes from Havelock North or Hastings City, this very well developed and maintained 146.5 hectare (362 acre) pastoral property has many ideal attributes, not only for profitable, easily managed livestock production, but also for a lifestyle in a very pleasant location handy to both Havelock North and Hastings City.

The property lies at the end of quiet picturesque Douglas Road at Poukawa, 25 km south of Hastings City or Havelock North Village largely on State Highway No 2 before turning off into Poukawa. This is an easy to medium hill country property owned and well cared for by two generations of the same family. There is a very high standard of well maintained farm improvements, boundary fences are permanent post and batten with electric outriggers. Internal fences are a mix of permanent post and batten and permanent electric. On easy and undulating terrain towards the east end of the property there is a more intensive 'techno' electric fence subdivision system in place for intensive cattle fattening. In total there are 23 main paddocks and a number of smaller holding paddocks. There is a substantial, well maintained 4 stand wool shed and associated sheep yards. There is a second set of sheep handling yards towards the rear of the property.

The farm has a good well balanced spread of contour, with substantial areas of easy undulating terrain having deep fertile limestone derived soils rising to medium hill and some steeper faces in the middle portion and rear boundary. The terrain aspect is ideal for productive farming with predominantly warm north facing terrain, together with a good balance of land sheltered from dry westerly summer winds and substantial natural shelter from southerly storms. Here is some of Hawke’s Bay’s (and New Zealand’s) best and most productive winter grazing country, especially for winter cattle fattening. In an average year grass production spreads well into winter.

There is an excellent reticulated water system from an artesian bore supplying two concrete troughs in most permanent paddocks. There are a number of permanent springs on the property. The property has had generous fertiliser applications every year for the past 20 years.

The property does not contain a residence but offers a choice of outstanding house sites enjoying wonderful panoramic rural vistas north to south.
